Database Contexts
The database consists of core fields (such as name, address and so on) and user-defined fields which are spread over 13 pages.

When you create a new Company, for example, you will see the core fields followed by 13 pages of user-defined fields. You can optionally show or hide entire pages of fields by setting the context as either Always Visible or Always Hidden. For further flexibility you can set contexts.

Top   What is a context?
A context allows you to dictate which pages are visible depending on the type of information you are entering.

Imagine that you deal with two distinct types of companies; Customers and Suppliers. You might have some fields set up to contain information relevant to a customer company (such as their credit limit) and other fields which are relevant to supplier companies (such as delivery costs).

If you customise the database so that customer company fields appear on page 1 and supplier company fields appear on page 2, you can set the database so that page 1 is hidden when you are editing a supplier and page 2 is hidden when you are editing a customer.

Here is how you would achieve the above scenario:
Choose Pg1 from The context for: droplist
Click the Add a new context button
  Type Customer and choose OK
You should now see:
The context for Pg1 is Customer
Choose Pg2 from The context for: droplist
Click the Add a new context button
  Type Supplier and choose OK
You should now see:
The context for Pg2 is Supplier

Top   When will I see contexts?
If you have added contexts for a company, for example, then every time you create a new company you will be asked for the context. In the above example, you would be given a choice of Customer or Supplier.

These context choices will also appear in the Import Wizard when you import new data.

Top   Deleting contexts
If you delete a context and you have created entries in your database using that context, the default value of always visible will be assumed when you go to edit the company or contact.

To delete a context:
Select it from the Contexts drop-list
  Click Delete this context
